What stays on your computer

Your bills, customers, employees, prices and expenses stay on your own computer or phone, encrypted. ShopBill never sends them to our server.

What is sent to us

When you start the free trial we receive your name, shop name, mobile number, email and town (if you typed them), the kind of device (Windows or Android), the app version, and a code that identifies your computer. When you enter a licence key we receive the key and that code. The app asks now and then whether your trial or licence is still valid. If you switch on "Send crash reports" in Settings, an error report is sent (the error text, app version, platform and device code, never your bills, customers or prices). It is off unless you switch it on.

This website

This website sets no cookies. It counts page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which records which page was opened, from which country and on what kind of device, without cookies and without identifying you or following you to other sites. We use the counts to see which pages help and which do not.

Why

To start your 15 day trial once per computer, to give you back the same trial if you reinstall, to check a licence key, to tell you when a new version is out, and, if you allow it, to find and fix errors. We do not sell your details and do not show advertisements.

Why we may use your details

We use them because you gave them to us to register and to run the licence you asked for, and because we need them to keep your trial and licence working. For the optional things (crash reports, Google Drive) we use them only if you switch them on, and you can switch them off.

Who else handles your details

We use a few services to run ShopBill, and your registration and licence details pass through them only for that: Vercel (hosts our server and this website), Cloudflare (stores the licence data and its daily backup) and Google (Gmail sends you your key and receipt; Google Drive is used only if you connect it). We do not give your details to anyone else, except where the law requires it.

How we protect it

The shop data on your device is encrypted. Backups are locked with your own password before they leave your device. Everything between the app and our server travels over a secure (HTTPS) connection, and the admin panel is behind a login. No system is perfectly safe, so keep your owner PIN and backup password to yourself.

Messages from us

We write to you to send your licence key, receipts, renewal reminders and new-version notices, by email (and by WhatsApp when that is switched on). These are about your licence, not advertisements. We will not send promotions without asking you first, and you can ask us to stop any message.

Your backup on Google Drive

If you connect Google Drive in Backup and restore, the app saves your encrypted backup files in a hidden folder that belongs only to ShopBill in your own Google Drive (the permission "drive.appdata", which cannot see any other file in your Drive). The app also reads the email address of the Google account you connect, only to show you which account is connected; it is kept on your device. The backup files are locked with your backup password before they leave your computer, so neither Google nor we can read them. We never receive your Google password, your Drive files or your backups: the connection is between your device and Google. We do not use, share or sell anything from your Google account. ShopBill's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can disconnect in the app at any time, and you can remove ShopBill in your Google account under Security, Third-party access; the backup files can be deleted from there too.

Payments

You pay for a licence by UPI, from your own UPI app, to the UPI address shown in ShopBill. We never see your UPI PIN or your bank details. We keep only the amount, the reference, the name you gave and the date, to confirm the payment and send your receipt and key.

How long we keep it

We keep your shop details and licence for as long as you use ShopBill and for a reasonable time after, for support and accounts. Payment and invoice records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Crash reports are kept for a short time. Our daily server backups keep an old copy for 31 days, then it is gone.

Your choices and deleting your details

You can ask us to show, correct or remove the details we hold about your shop: write to the address at the bottom of this page. To remove them we replace your name, mobile number, email and town with "Erased". Your licence, payments and invoice numbers stay, because tax records have to be kept. When we do this, your data on your own computer is not touched, and an old copy in our daily backups goes away within 31 days. You can stop crash reports and disconnect Google Drive in the app whenever you like.

If something goes wrong

If the details we hold about you are ever exposed, we will tell the shops affected as soon as we know, by email and phone, say what happened and what to do about it, and report it to the authorities where the law requires.

Where the law applies

ShopBill is made in India for shops in India, and we handle your details in line with Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. It is not offered to people in the European Union, so it is not set up for the EU's GDPR.
